CLAT PG - Common Law Admission Test (LLM)

The CLAT PG (LLM) program is divided into two parts:

  1. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  2. Subjective (Descriptive) Questions

Exam Structure

Here is the CLAT PG Exam Structure in a table format :

MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) 100 Questions 100 Marks (1 mark each)
Descriptive (Essay-Type Questions) 2 Questions 50 Marks (25 marks each)
  • Candidates must secure at least 40% marks (35% for SC, ST & PWD) in the MCQ section to qualify for the evaluation of their descriptive answers.
  • If a candidate scores below 40% in the MCQ section, their subjective part will not be evaluated, leading to disqualification.
  • Negative marking: 0.25 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer in the MCQ section.
  • There is no negative marking in the subjective section.

Changes in CLAT PG Pattern (Since 2021)

  • The pattern has shifted towards a reading-based format.
  • Questions in the Legal Reasoning section are now passage-based.
  • Strong reading comprehension skills are essential for scoring well.

CLAT PG Exam Syllabus

1. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs – 100 Questions)

This section covers foundational knowledge of various law subjects, including:

  • Constitutional Law (Heavy Emphasis)
  • Tax Law
  • Business Law
  • Indian Penal Code (IPC)
  • Civil Procedure Code (CPC)
  • Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC)
  • Labour Law
  • Administrative Law
  • Bare Acts of Respective State Laws

2. Subjective (Essay-Type) Questions (2 Questions – 25 Marks Each)

    • Candidates must write two essay-type answers on contemporary legal topics.
